More Americans Celebrating at Home this Summer
YOUNGSTOWN, OH – More Americans appear to be staying home over holiday weekends this year and foregoing normal holiday travel plans, according to reports from across the country. From California to New Jersey, AAA Clubs are reporting travel down from 2.3% to 12 % for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
Marketwatch.com quoted recently from a report by national accounting powerhouse Deloitte & Touche that 12% of Americans who had planned to travel for Memorial Day weekend cancelled their trips.
“The fact that more people are staying home for holiday weekends this summer could translate to a bigger appetite for the use of consumer fireworks to supplement family picnics and cookouts,” said Daniel Peart, assistant Retail Operations Director for Phantom Fireworks, a national consumer fireworks retail leader headquartered in Youngstown, Ohio.
“Our showrooms across the country reported a significant increase in business for the Memorial Day weekend fireworks sales,” reported Peart. “We believe this is a clear indication that people are using more consumer fireworks at home for more than just Independence Day this year.”
The “Stay-cation” idea of staying home for a vacation that was introduced into popular culture in 2005 by Canadian comedian Brent Butt, is fast becoming a reality of economically challenged 2009 America. “A consumer fireworks display in your backyard is a great way to spice up anyone’s “Stay-cation” with spectacular effects that can thrill a neighborhood,” said Peart.
“Phantom Fireworks has enhanced its line of high-quality 500 gram aerial repeaters and other consumer fireworks favorites with such top-performing items as Burst & Bloom, Shoot & Scoot, Seaside Garden, Powercell and Tropic Thunder,” reported Alan Zoldan, Executive Vice President. “These 500 gram repeaters are just the thing to make any backyard display the envy of the neighborhood,” said Zoldan.
Phantom Fireworks is owned by the B.J. Alan Company, headquartered in Youngstown, Ohio.
